dermatitisDermatitis or eczema is atopic dermatitis, skin inflammation, characterized by scaly skin lesions with erythema, vesicles, oozing, cracking, scratching lesions and areas of thickened (lichenification), almost always itchy. These lesions appear at different stages in the form of plaques that can appear depending on age in the face, flexures of the extremities, or in various areas of the body, even in some patients the full extent of the skin (erythroderma).

The atopic dermatitis is presented in different forms and depending on the age distribution of the patient.

In the infant, before the first birthday of eczema lesions usually occur on the head (cradle cap), face respecting eyes, nose and mouth, or extended by the skin of the whole body. Diaper dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin area covering the baby’s diaper. Its causes and types are different and their prevention is based on proper cleaning and drying the area.

What is diaper rash?

It is an inflammatory process with skin rash in the area covering the diaper in young children.

The disorder has several causes, alone or concomitantly trigger this disease, among which include:

a) Physical causes such as prolonged occlusion and friction;

b) Excessive bacterial growth

Increases skin cancer in women under 40 years

skin cancerAt least two types of skin cancer have increased among women younger than 40 years in the U.S., due to sun exposure and use sunscreen, according to a study released today.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, said that the increasing number of patients with this cancer shows that young people ignored the warnings of the risks of tanning leather.

The number of cases has been detected in the types of the disease known as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC, for its acronym in English) and elementary cell carcinoma (BCC), they said.

The evil may emerge throughout the body, although the most common areas of infection are exposed to sunlight.

In 2000, diagnosed in the U.S. were approximately 800,000 new cases of BCC and 200,000 SCC. (more…)

Tanning devices increased 50% the chance of skin cancer

Tanning devicesThe Medical Association of Spain (WTO) recently published a report of the European Union warning that the use of beds and artificial tanning devices increased by 50% the chance of getting skin cancer.

The secretary general of the WTO, Juan Jose Rodriguez SendĂ­n, said at a news conference that the report of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products of the European Commission hopes that the people who use artificial tanning salons are aware of the danger they have and recommended also reduce the natural sun exposure.

According to this specialist in the coming years may have more definitive reports on the relationship between the growth of melanoma (skin cancer) and those who use sunbeds for cosmetic purposes. (more…)
