Vitamin A and skin

Vitamin AWhen vitamin A is readily absorbed from the skin, the skin becomes saturated first and limited quantities of vitamin A also penetrate into the dermis and adipose tissue. A vitamin A deficiency causes hyperkeratinization, resulting in dry, rough skin and atrophy of sebaceous glands and sweat.

Vitamin A is necessary for proper division of basal cells of the epidermis. It regulates the migration and transformation of keratinocytes into the stratum corneum (top layer of skin). Indeed, it causes a delay of the progressive disappearance of cell nuclei Malpighian characterizes the formation of the stratum corneum.
